Dr. Nancy Chinn is an Acquired Brain Injury Specialist in the Disability Resources Department at Santa Rosa Junior College. A speech-language pathologist with a doctorate in Educational Leadership from University of California Davis, she worked as a clinician in the field of brain injury rehabilitation for the first 12 years of her career before becoming a faculty member at SRJC in 1998. Dr. Chinn has been instrumental in the development of curricular and co-curricular activities to better serve college students with acquired brain injuries. Her research on management of concussion in community college athletics has combined her background as a clinician working in the field of brain injury with her interest in the discipline of education. Her subsequent collaboration with Sports Medicine and Ms. Ohkubo has resulted in a concussion management program that is becoming a model for other community colleges in the state. Dr. Chinn and Ms. Ohkubo have presented on their program at both statewide and national conferences, and most recently at the International Sport and Society Conference in Cambridge, UK. Dr. Chinn’s article entitled “Concussion Management in Community College Athletics: Revealing and Understanding the Gap Between Knowledge and Practice” is scheduled for publication in the Community College Journal of Research and Practice April 10, 2013.
