Head Athletic Trainer & Pre-Sports Medicine Program Director

Dr. Ohkubo has been the Head Athletic Trainer at Santa Rosa Junior College since 2007 after starting her career at SRJC as an assistant athletic trainer in 2005.  She is also the Sports Medicine & Athletic Training program director and an instructor in the Kinesiology, Athletics and Dance department.  Dr. Ohkubo has a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with a concentration Athletic Training from Sonoma State University and her Master’s degree from San Jose State University.  She completed her Doctoral degree at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in 2017.  Her dissertation examined the role of California Community College Athletic Training Preparation Programs: Relevance to Athletic Training Education and Student Success. 

Dr. Ohkubo has worked with a wide range of patients, from intercollegiate athletes to ultimate frisbee players.  She has volunteered for the Sonoma County Sol Women’s semi-professional soccer team, and was the athletic trainer for the Santa Rosa Scorchers Women’s professional football team for over 5 years.  In her two years at San Jose State, Dr. Ohkubo worked at BaySport Physical Therapy, and as head athletic trainer at Silver Creek High School.  Outside of the 20 SRJC intercollegiate teams, Dr. Ohkubo has also worked with USA youth volleyball and wrestling, professional rodeo, taekwondo, and other diverse athletes. She is also certified as an EMT-B and an American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid instructor.  She is a member of the California Athletic Trainers’ Association, Far West Athletic Trainers’ Association and National Athletic Trainers’ Association since 2002, and is also a member of the California Community College Athletic Trainers’ Association.  Dr. Ohkubo also volunteers in her community, advocating and supporting the movement to hire athletic trainers in all area high schools.
